Boland Rugby’s biggest modern day contribution to the sport is the number of Springboks it has produced and the addition of the new SARU BRU Rugby Academy will be a further boost in the development of young rugby talent, not only for the Boland Cavaliers, Boland u.19 and Boland u.21 teams, but for South African Rugby as a whole.

In only the first year the SARU Boland Rugby Academy has exceeded all expectations with the Boland u.19 and Boland u.21 teams reaching the semi-final and final of their respective Absa Currie Cup competitions in 2013.

Boland Rugby has a strong heritage and history of excellence and is fully committed to transformation in SA Rugby. Boland Rugby is the biggest producer of Springbok “players of colour” since unification.

Springboks, past and present who learned their trade in the Boland area include among others: Bolla Conradie, Hilton Lobberts, Derick Hougaard, Francois Hougaard, Jean de Villiers, Schalk Burger, JP Peterson, Andries Bekker, Gurthro Steenkamp, Heini Adams, Sampie Mastriet (Sevens), Danwel Demas (Sevens), Ryno Benjamin (Sevens), Cornal Hendricks (Sevens) Gio Aplon, Ashley Johnson, Juan de Jongh, Willie le Roux and Pieter-Steph du Toit.
